Canning and Preserving at Mississippi Market
Mississippi Market Natural Foods Co-op presents our Canning and Preserving Course Series. Classes range from Canning Basics for the beginner to specialty classes, such as Pressure Canning, for those looking to expand their pantry.
“It is so important to keep our food preservation traditions alive, both for the practicality of preserving local foods at their peak and the pure joy of producing small-batch artisan products,” says Mississippi Market’s Consumer Affairs Manager and Master Food Preserver, Liz McMann. “These classes give everyone a chance to try their hand at preserving their own food, whether it’s freezing, fermenting or canning.”
Canning fruits and vegetables is a great way to preserve local food at its peak and to extend the local harvest. The co-op’s Canning and Preserving Course Series addresses how to safely can a variety of foods at home. Take as few or as many classes as you’d like in the series. However, if you are new to canning, we recommend that you start with the “Canning Basics” class before expanding into the other canning classes. Other classes include Canning Tomatoes, Canning Pickles, and Hot and Spicy Preserving. Classes started in July, run through August, and round out in September.
Visit www.msmarket.coop for a complete listing of classes, course descriptions, and fees. Please visit our Customer Service staff or call 651-690-0509 to register. Class fees due at time of registration.
